On March 2nd, 2024, in anticipation of the Nauryz holiday, the Warwick University Kazakh Society, supported by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom and the newly established Kazakh Centre in the UK, hosted the annual Warwick Kazakh Ball. This event, now a tradition for over a decade, serves as a significant gathering for Kazakh youth.
Held in Coventry, England, the event celebrated Kazakh culture, beginning with the national anthem of Kazakhstan and ‘Shashu’ Kazakh tradition of scattering of sweets, a symbol of spreading joy and prosperity.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom, Magzhan Iliyasov, opened the evening with words of encouragement for the students. He urged them to apply the knowledge and experience gained from their studies for the benefit of their homeland, contributing to its development.
The Kazakh Cultural Centre in the UK shared information about the center’s objectives and upcoming activities at the ball, which attracted young people from all corners of the United Kingdom.
Talented performers entertained the guests with kuis of Kurmangazy «Adai,» «Balbyrauyn,» and Dauletkerey’s «Korogli,» alongside popular songs like «Auylym,» «Mahabbatym,» and «Sway.» The evening also featured a variety of games and dance competitions, with prizes awarded to participants.
The Warwick Kazakh Ball remains one of the most anticipated annual events for the young Kazakh community in the United Kingdom, fostering cultural pride and unity.
